The entire Grand Canyon and the southern Red Flag Canal flow from this source. It is said that in the past, rotten ship boards often gushed out of the spring, but the local people did not know where these rotten ship boards came from, so they were named "rotten ship gorge".

Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon has a long history and many legends. It was once a battleground for military strategists of all ages. The site of Li Guo headquarters, Wu Sangui and Li Zicheng remains in the scenic area. After the Qing army entered the Shanhaiguan, Wu Sangui led the Qing army to fight to the death with Li.
